OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

These same people with the mindset that you have about Black Panther, is telling me that all these black folks doing extra stuff is ok? So black people who spent years studying black history telling us about our history are the wrong ones, but Ray Ray who has a gripe with who’s behind the film is the one in the right? Got it. But then Disney and Marvel makes this film and this is the one and if you question anything about the overreaction then you’re hating? Got it.

Man what?

Where did you get that black historians etc...are wrong in my post.

I have already conceded that yes...I can see how people say black people are doing “the most”

I ackgnowledge and understand that.

But to actively shit on people who are proud as hell to see black people portrayed in the manner they are in this movie on a global scale. And to shit on the result of this pride (dialoge, further embracing of our african culture, etc.)

I just dont get it family

But you just said “inaccuracies in the persons life” or something to that effect. I’m not shitting on anybody my stance has been that all the extra stuff is too much and if a comic book movie inspires someone to embrace their African heritage then something is wrong.

your gripe was towards people that, when a movie is based on a true story, you have people nitpicking over innaccuracies

correct me if im wrong...according to Du, i dont ever say what that person says

the way i interpret BDP comments is that, there are instances where a gripe over inaccuracies is warranted, like if the estate of James brown had an issue with how something was portrayed in his biopic

Ok.

Historical inaccuracies about peoples lives do exist. Dont be dense. Only way we can get 100% accurate account is of the person its about is directly involved.

Movies about specific cultures and customs are a bit more black and white in my opinion and are “easier” to portray.

I made a point about black people making certain films and other blacks nitpicking it but with this Black Panther movie trying to tell me that the overreaction is normal. And if James Brown estate don’t approve of any portrayal then it will not see the light of day. And if something gets put out unauthorized then there will be lawsuits. It’s the reason we never got a MLK movie, the estate said no because the film makers insisted on including MLK’s cheating on Corretta.

But you threw the “about people’s lives” angle in there. And no movie about history will ever be 100% factual.

I meantioned that because usually historical movies are based around what?

1. People
2. Events

And no shit it will never be 100% accurate. You are agreeing with me.

show me where this happened
i didn't accuse anyone of it, i just pointed out the irony in it...

like of course we can't nitpick at inaccuracies in african culture of wakanda, cuz wakanda is fictional..
which makes it the perfect story to tell....

i said a few days ago you make a lie attractive enough people will prefer it over the truth 10 times outta 10

fictional stories stay winning...cuz you can make everything perfect...and there are never any flaws....

remember the whole can you be proback with a white wife argument?

people don't want flawed or ugly.
they want perfection...the one thing they don't like about you and everything is dismissed.....

which is why fictional character stay winning....

complete tangent thought, but you asked

well you understand my frustration with how much we overvalue the fantasy vs the reality....

like we're tired of truthful gritty, sometimes ugly, but always truthful images...

and we're welcoming beautiful, glorious, majestical, but very fictitious reimagningings

one of the questions i never got a satisfactory answer for as a youth was why wasn't there a world war to get the blacks back from slavery...africa was a whole continent... why didn't come and beat the shit outta the fuck boys and take us back home if it was such a big deal?

like where's that story on film? can we make it pretty enough to tell? well the disney movie just glossed over it and set up one of the most savage villains in all of the MCU that everyone agrees with.....

yet still.....
