OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

I understand Du point he thinks Blacks in America view ourselves so low that we latch on to anything outside of our culture. Like we dont take pride in Black American lifestyle. And sometimes we do come off that way.

But Caribbean cultures just as old as ours and they are proud as hell.

I disagree with Du tho most of us nowadays have alot of pride with being black americans and being American means we shouldnt give a fuck if some outsiders view us through stereotypical lens. I dont think this movie is gonna change everything but I dont think we losing our culture in the US by seeing this movie. Or viewing ourselves as less than.

but why would they go to a book store when libraries are free?

why would they want to learn when they dont see nothing wrong with how they are using their money now?

People place their pride in the wrong things...and those things are not representative of blackness that's an issue

Great movie. I'd say the best overall, but the action scenes weren't Winter Soldier level.

Let these people have their fun with it. The movie earns it I say.

The story and world is this movies strength.
Not 2 much other superhero movies is fuckin with it in that sense
 
I just saw the movie.

Everything Du said the movie would be was wrong.

Spoiler ahead. You've been warned
Killmonger and T'Challa were not on opposite sides. The only reason they fought was because Killmonger was ready to go to war with the rest of the world that's been oppressing Black people.

Contrary to what Du said. Killmonger's goal wasn't about reconnecting with Africa. He already knew the language, the history, and the customs. His goal was connecting black people worldwide.

And guess what? In the end, T'Challa ended up doing just that, albeit without the violence.

And I wish I could've taken pictures of the people in my theater.

Our people look so fucking good in African attire. Nobody was jumping up and down making a scene. We just came in, looked good, sat down quietly enjoying the film, then left.

No mockery. No appropriation. No fetishizing. None of that.
