OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

and in regards to this movie, i was initially super hype about it....

but once the trend caught on i became more and more annoyed with the brand new fake ass fans, who were doing the most....

i've ALWAYS had my mixed feelings about africans and african culture due to my own personal experiences.....

and when i started seeing those same things in this movie hype, my irritation was pretty high...so while i didn't make this thread...or start the initial conversation.....i 100% agreed that niggaz is showing their whole ass hyping this movie..and i say yea, let's talk about it

i think i get what you are saying.

i am kinda that same way too.

i hate when niggas get on the wagon just because something is popular and they know nothing about it. but since everyone is doing it...they doing it too.

your first statement was hitting, but i disagree with this one.

we pretty much have a natural resource of influence over the world.....

that's who we are...and we use our influence at times more for profit than progress....


that's a issue for another discussion tho if u ask me

So you're the thing what you always portray me as, the dude who hates on things because everybody else likes it. The only difference is that I actually sit down and give it a chance and you just hate from the start.

but we still make crumbs in the profit and not making that profit make more money for us.....we are not doing what i know we can do.

im saying.....while this movie should be inspiration to some...we can not allow that to dwindle after two weeks.

naw.....i hate the hype train, not the product itself......unless the product itself isn't to my liking....

i don't hate anything about Black panther other than the hype train...and not even from the marketing standpoint...that's expected...

i hate the perception that this will be the celebrated as the most important movie in black history.....like it should be a big deal... but holy fuck...niggaz made the cover of time

and that's more a testament to our commercialism than anything.....

it's possible i'm overreacting simply off the fact that most of these hype train folk will forget this shit for the next trend by march....but it has been a fun discussion so i'm not tripping

Even if you take away the African influence black people would still flock to it. If Blade and Spawn was made in this era it would still be a big deal. For so long we had to watch these white characters kick ass and be at the top of the box office so I have no problem that a brotha is getting more hype than Spiderman.

i saw both of those the day they came out.

it's just silly how the shit i was excited about back then was nerd shit, but now that same shit is the latest trend in today's world...

maybe i am salty....but the shit still looks shallow as fuck, i'm willing to bet half the motherfuckers going to see this shit don't even really know what it's about...they just going cuz black twitter said so

but you are right to a certain extent.

it is cool for the moment....but will people take anything from it? i highly doubt it...but hopefully a few will.

we need to be proud to be black because we are black....not because of a movie, a month or that white chicks want to be blacked.

tbh i don't really follow time magazine covers, so for all i know they could have and i never woulda knew it....... but i know if u make it, it's supposed to be a big deal... so when i saw that boseman was on the cover, i was like wow..they really considering this a widespread cultural phenomenon...
