OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

The black american in the movie is the villain. He is obsessed with connecting with his people back in Africa. And he is the villain.

The hero is the African King who is like, fuck you fake ass american, you will never be accepted by our people.

The actor playing the the African King says he relates more personally with the villain in the movie.

That may be a bit of an overexaggeration man lol

Im sure the antagonists motives are bit more nuanced than that man lol

You wildin

Y'all focus on the negative aspects of our people. Y'all obsess over the negative shit.

And attack me cuz I say it's not all bad.

Yall romanticizing African culture, I point out that we have our own beautiful culture and people and I'm negative...

It's like y'all only see the bad when it comes to our people . And the only shot at good is Africa.

I see that as self hate

But I'm alone.
I'm the hater.

Go figure

who is romanticizing African culture?

Amd even with black actors in non black-centric films....how many awards has an black actor/actress won or got high esteem for a role they played that WASNT a negative/stereotypical role...not including biopics

@King Du I understand your position man I really do...and I respect it.

I just cant get with you calling a Black person desperate or corny or ashamed for wanting to learn more and attempt to connect to a heritage that wasnt lost...but stolen...taken away by force.
Bcuz we've proven our resilience. Ten times over .

We don't need Africa to look strong.

But I feel like I'm the only one who sees or gets that.

When you need African images to look strong, it sends the message that we're weak without it.

And all y'all doing is reaffirming how weak y'all really think we look.

I just see it different.

My next book gonna be extra ignorant. And I hope it gets made as a movie and wins hella awards so I can get on TV and talk this shit to the whole world

who is romanticizing African culture?
The perception that Africans are the perfect black people, and by embracing their culture we erase every ugly thing about ourselves that we not proud of.

Example is the over infatuation with this movie. I wonder if Niggaz did this in the 80's when coming to America came out

This sounds like self hate.
Like you only see the negative.

I see our people as beautiful, bright, and making great strides and efforts in establishing ourselves as a whole every day.

Sucks that you don't see that.... But maybe a movie about some comic book Africans will change your perception

You're being dense as fuck now. Have you even traveled the world? I have. I can tell you what I've seen and heard.

How about this though... @DOS_patos, from what I've read, you might be one of the most well-traveled black American men on here. What is the perception of black Americans from the rest of the world?

And I wasn't referring to how I feel about my people, genius. I know what we are and what we're capable of. I don't know how you misconstrue that sentiment unless you were being facetious and/or ignorant. I was talking about how we're (black americans) viewed world-wide.

Perception of us is what we are majority portrayed as

Ive been to over 10 countries

They think we are either athletes, rappers or thugs. It shocks them to encounter well spoken, intelligent black americans.

This is real shit...not something ive made up.

Lol, y'all do realize that the black Americans are the villains right??

We are not the good guys in this movie....

Lol this movie is specifically about Africans beating the shit outta black Americans who just want to be accepted...

Like that's the plot. Lol

The movie is not big upping black america...

It's villianizing us while big upping the Africans...
The exact thing y'all doing to me.

Aww man, the irony is killing me.. this is what happens when non comic fans get caught up in comic book shit.

Lol

Here is the thing Du

Not one black person I know or encounter think African culture is superior. Because most of us know that African culture is our culture....we just been disconnected. So...again...I cant get with your argument that a Black american is somehow corny, desperate, and self hating because they want to explore a culture that was TAKEN. We didnt come over here voluntarily and say “fuck our cultural roots” we were stolen and forces to abandon.

Quiet as kept MANY of the things we do now within Black american culture can be traced back to....you guessed it

AFRICA AND THE CULTURES WE TRIED TO PRESERVE SINCE THE FIRST SLAVE GOT HERE IN THE 1600s
