It's possible

He also didn't beat a prime Ali just like Tyson didn't beat a prime Larry Holmes.

No. In the legacy of great heavyweights Holmes is a great.. but the equivalent of the late 80s Pistons when compared to the Bulls, Lakers & Celtics of that era. He’s always mentioned last & his reign don’t hit the same as the others. He has a lot of wins with very few memorable fights. He took full advantage of that period of a lack of great fighters after Ali started fading away.

The shit he is remembered for sucks. Beating down Ali when he had no business in the ring. The three ring circus of a fight with Gerry Cooney to make up for the fact that he was never a viable star... & him getting beat down by Tyson when HE had no business in the ring. He had a great fight with Ken Norton when his career took off but other than that, ain’t nobody on YouTube clambering for the best of Larry Holmes highlights.

Well by your own admission, if you can excuse Ali because he was old, then you have to excuse Holmes for losing to Spinks and Tyson because he was the same age as Ali when he fought them.

He fought everybody who was anybody and held the title for 7 consecutive years. He also successfully defended his belt 20 times which makes him the 4th longest reigning Heavyweight champ. Here's a web page that explains it further;

The problem people have with Larry Holmes was that he was boring. After the Muhammad Ali era Holmes was quiet and soft spoken. And he wasn't a knockout artist either, he'd just jab you for 15 rounds and win by decision. But he beat all challengers for seven consecutive years.

And yeah, I've been on Youtube watching his fights for the past week or so (I'm unemployed). Besides Muhammad Ali he beat Ernie Shavers (twice), Leon Spinks, Trevor Berbick and Ken Norton. I think those guys could compare to anybody from any era.

On a side note, agree or disagree that Larry Holmes, Ernie Shavers, Leon Spinks, Trevor Berbick and Ken Norton could compete with any 5 boxers from any era?
