In Is God Is, two sisters embark on an epic quest for revenge, confronting a charged family history that will push them to extraordinary lengths. The film is Aleshea Harris' directorial debut and is based on Harris' adaptation of her award-winning play of the same name.

Aleshea Harris is directing from her own script adapted from her 2018 stage play which opened Off Broadway at the Soho Rep. In Is God Is, twin sisters Racine and Anaia have disfiguring burn scars and are eking out a dismal existence in a city that doesn’t feel like home. Though twins, they couldn’t be more different. Racine, whose scars are only on her torso and hands, is the defender, hitting back at their many bullies since childhood. Anaia, whose scars have marked her face, is the quiet one, content to live in her sister’s protective shadow. Their world is upended when the mother they’d believed long dead summons them to her bedside and reveals that their father is responsible for her bedridden state as well as the twins’ scars. They listen in disbelief as she orders them to kill their father for what he has done. Will they take up arms and spill blood? Or find mercy on the road to confront the man who destroyed everything?

Been seeing trailers for this heavy.

Shit looks promising

This is one of the best films I've watched up to this point in 2026 and I can see it still being in my top 10 by the end of the year.

The bond between the twins is everything so shout out to the 2 actresses for having that chemistry. Revenge thrillers been made for decades but I actually enjoyed the filmmaking and writing for this. It actually felt like Boots Riley meets Quentin Tarantino

Sterling K Brown's presence is felt throughout despite only fully appearing at the end. "Careful with vengeance. One doesn't know where the blood will fall."

Black director, black cast. This should be seen in theaters
