OPINION "Iconic" is going to be the new "classic"

And Mims had one song and vanished LOOLOLOLOL he was a guest in Hip-Hop.

Are you gonna let a nigga like that dictate the future of this thing of ours ??? SMMFH.

We have Kendrick, Cole, Drake, Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, Big Sean, Wale, KRIT, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, H.E.R, SZA, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Pusha T, Nipsey Hussle, and even older rappers from the Golden Era dropping some of their best material since their primes. Either you a guest in HipHop or you a fan of the music and culture enough to respect both the past and present.
I felt that around 2011/2012 time that hip hop was trending upwards again, but it went back down with all these Yachty type dudes flooding the culture smh.

The death of poetry ? Did he listen to TPAB or For Your Eyes Only ? Did he listen to DROGAS WAVE, Daytona, Kamikaze or KOD ?? Did he listen to Kairi Chanel or DAMN ? Did he listen to 4:44 ? He sounds bitter and out of touch to me with all due respect. I'd have to read that entire interview cuz I feel like you might be taking it out of context to support your own failing argument.

Nah... Hip Hop Is Dead... Rakim lives & breathes Hip Hop ... Rakim is the REAL GOD MC not Jay Z...

But every era has that, we can't sit here and act like Busy Bee, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, Biz Markie or Sugar Hill Gang didn't exist. We can't act like 69 Boyz, Tag Team, SNAP! or PM Dawn didn't exist. Chingy, Jarule, Cadillac Tah, Smilez and Southstar, Lil Jon, OJ da Juiceman. There's way more I can add to that list too. Every era has its dope and wack artists. Was hiphop dead then too or are we just playing favorites now ? Let's look at the full picture objectively.
The game is supposed to evolve though. Sugar Hill Gang were pioneers, Whodini, Busy Bee, and Kurtis Blow were dope for their time. Biz was never taken seriously and he had ghostwriters. Chingy was never taken seriously, Ja Rule was not wack did he make corny songs? Yes. But wack? No. Cadillac Tah was never rated like that he maybe had one semi hit in 01. Smilez and Southstar were never taken seriously, it wasn't until Lil Jon blew up that people like him were taken serious, then it opened the floodgates and we're still seeing the after effects now.

You could say the same about Lil Jon, Nelly, Lil Wayne, Juvenile and others. The point I'm making is every era has their pros and cons. The OGs are the ones who opened the floodgates.
Sugar Hill Gang had the first hip hop record on wax, that in itself is monumental. I’ll give you Lil Jon since he made it cool for rappers with no skill to be taken seriously. But how is Nelly, Wayne and Juvenile pioneers?

with all due disrespect fuck the new generation

i think masterpiece is a great designation it would be hard to misuse but i dont underestimate niggas penchant for misusing words.. but its has multiple syllables so i think we might be safe..

Hip-hop as we knew it before social media, blogs, streaming sites & what have you.. is dead. Hip hop is still here alive and well but it definitely has evolved. For better or worse. There’s still greatness there even tho you might have to look around a bit to see it. This pusification of society as a whole has taken the edge off the sound & voices of hip-hop as well IMO.

ANYWAY

this makes me wonder. Does Jay truly have any iconic albums?

Classic music is made every year but i think after a certain age u kinda settle with the music u liked up to a certain age.

By 30 yrs old most content isnt new to u so while to u its recycled n 'heard it all before' to kids with fresh ears who are also living new experience with this music as their back ground its nostalgic for them.

Whereas an older person whos life is more routine n redundant the music just comes n goes along with not understanding or liking what the younger generation is doing.

Aside from the era of streaming and massive amount of content on a daily basis i think this all comes down to age.

The more things change the more they stay the same. Its a new environment but the older gen is shitting on the younger just like when we were coming up.
