these are not “feel good” stories. these stories represent how broken america is and how we’ve failed working class ppl, especially teachers and students.

sick of it.

speaking honestly about government and capitalist failings >>>> framing every story of one person or institution going above and beyond the entire us government as “heart warming” masking government and capitalist failings

Yeah, this is low key social programming.

They basically use these stories to make us believe that solving societal issues is something that the common men and women have to break their backs to do when the reality is that we have elected officials that are supposed to govern the country in a way that sacrifice like this isn't needed.

It's all about framing. Responsible news outlets could give upstanding citizens like this their props while also highlighting the failings that led to those people having to go to such drastic lengths in the first place.

Good topic though. More people need to see through the fog.

They really aren't feel good stories at all when you take a look at the whole picture. Respect what people like them are doing but have to acknowledge how fucked up it is that they have to do that and do something about it.
facts. A feel good story would be families are eating well every night, employed mom & dad are in the home building up great kids for the future.

Chicago public schools allocates 16k per student in a school year ( The state recommends 22k)

average cost to house a prisoner in Illinois is a little bit over 33k

do with this info what you will

Look this is what happens when you sign up for a job as a teacher that you have to sometimes sacrifice to make things work and be creative to improvise as a teacher to get the job done. This is why being a teacher is not for everybody and I do believe teachers are underpaid and should be getting paid more money.

So basically I'm supposed to feel good that a man who already dedicated his life to his career, also has to dedicate his free time because his career doesn't pay enough to truly help the children he cares about.

If it's just money, there's a multitude of people that could write one check that would eclipse this man's hard work and give him a rest.

In fact people who read the story could help those children more than the person working two jobs.

Great point to bring up.....

He shouldn’t have to work overnight to help students that’s what the government is for. But then I remembered that that would be socialism so nvm.
Bruh, I'm sure that school has one alumni that's making good money.

Enough to look out for kids that walked thru the same halls they did

I like your thinking and I've donated money for those kids and sometimes as a group of people we would pool our money together to get these kids school supplies and book bags that they need. Sadly, a lot of kids are in poverty with their parents making ends meet and can't afford the school supplies for their children like they should.

Bruh, I hate the anti-socialism crowd, not so much because they are against socialism because there are types of socialism that aren't good. I hate them because they are so passionate arguing against something they don't know anything about. They use socialism, communism, and fascism interchangeably. Just igrorant as fuck.

And the sad thing is, most of these ignoramuses champion capitalism SO BAD, and stay getting screwed by it.

They have no idea that the following departments in the country are inherently socialist:

Public schools
Police Dept
Fire Dept
Public library system
Medicare/Medicaid
Welfare/Food stamps
Sanitation
Postal Service
Housing Assistance

Things that keep this country from collapsing on itself have been based off citizen-paid taxes.

True but for some reason the paid taxes are not being distributed properly when teachers still have to pay for things for the students out of their own pocket which the government gets the blame for that shit. All hero's don't wear capes. I hate the teacher gotta go through that but I respect it.

ALL certified teachers in this country should have a starting salary at $50K. It's the bare minimum needed to ensure they not only have enough to maintain their own cost of living, it can incentivize them to provide supplies for their classroom when schools fall short on funding, or when teachers want to deviate their own learning experiences with their students.
