We'll start with the 70s since there probably aren't that many people who have opinions about music that came from the 60s or earlier. Also, this is music across the board, not just one genre in particular.

How would you actually rank them though?

For me, it would probably be:

90s
80s
70s
00s
10s
20s

It's tough when you think about all music though. If it was just black music, I might switch the 80s and 70s.

I voted 70s.

If you listen to The Last Poets and James Brown and Parliament/Funkadelic and then listen to the early rap records from Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow you can see the roots of Hip Hop.

Rappers Delight is truly an amazing record.

The 90s from start to end feels to of had the best mix of every genre of music. Watching a lot of MTV, BET & VH1 I can attest to this lol.

in terms of popular music prince michael and madonna dropped timeless classics

then you got stevie wonder, whitney, george michael, phil collins, tina turner revived her career, luther, anita, sade, new edition, kool and the gang, rick james

u2, guns n’ roses, bruce springsteen, bon jovi, billy joel, lionel richie

let’s be real here…1990s was monumental for hip hop, yes…but overall music. 1980s reigns supreme and it’s not even close
