I turn my mattress every 6 months and sanitize it with Lysol.
The mattress cover i use is some kind of liner with extra padding

I wash the mattress cover with the sheets weekly. I usually strip my bed bare and vacuum the top, then once my cover is dry put it back on with new bedding...
