How many of y'all was in the slower classes at school? 🤔

When I was kid I was able to start school at 3 because I had cerebral palsy. I was put in what was sort of like special ed classes in elementary school but I was in a program called P.O.H.I. which was a step above special ed and like regular class for the disabled kids.

I had speech classes in elementary & middle school due to a delay that I had at birth. By the time I was in jr high and H.S. I was in regular mainstream classes. The only slower class I was in throughout school was math.

I never was, but I never looked down on those who were. They were cool kids it turns out.

Kinda fascinating that my life turned out to where I'm a Special Education Coordinator - basically Head of Sped Dept - at my school. Those kids are some of the brightest, most colorful kids in school. I love being an advocate for them.

it's always wild how some regions did SAT and some did ACT

i remember when niggaz was frustrated they couldn't get that 1000 and was talking about trying the ACT....shit was rough
ACTs were supposed to be statewide while the SATs were a national thing. So only colleges in your state would look at your ACT scores while colleges nationwide could see the SAT results

ACT's are nationwide. I live in Michigan, my ACT's opened up doors at a couple of ivy league schools, Purdue, and a few others out of state. I never took the SAT because my ACT score was high enough to get me into pretty much any school I wanted.

Really, we were told that fewer schools would see it, and that the schools in Michigan would like them better than the SATs

I had these little breakout groups in Elementary school where I would get pulled out of class to tutor math in a small group. In HS I struggled with Algebra, so I had the Algebra lab class 1st period, and then a regular Algebra class at 6th period during my freshman year. But having two classes worth of Algebra actually helped me do a lot better and I ended up passing my final with an A. Honestly I had a really solid teachers who did a good job with hands on practice.

When it came to English and History I usually excelled and did "K-Level classes", but never did the AP stuff. However K level was pretty pointless because all really had was more homework and classwork. English was enjoyable though.

Also, we were pushed to take one or the other, not both.
I didn’t even know about the ACT in high school. Everything was SAT. First time Intook it I got the score needed to get into the school I wanted son I was done. Got into some higher level schools too but chose where I was more comfortable. Those other schools were way too big for a dude coming from such a small town in NC.

I'm MD if you took the ACT you was down bad on them SATs and needed something to get into college.

So I came to America in the 5th grade. I learned English REALLY fast, but they kept me in the slow classes for the beginning of 6th grade. We would sit in a room and basically watch movies all day and eat snacks. I thought it was the coolest shit in the world, until the other kids would walk by the class and see me in there and be like “yo, why you in there w slow Chris and them”. Slow Chris used to bang his head against shit. Girls also wasn’t tryinta give the time of day to kids in them classes. I asked to be removed from them classes ASAP, I had to agree to keep my grades at a certain level or I’d have to go back. That was never a problem lol
