Welcome To aBlackWeb

How good of an employee/employer are you?

With this current job, its really hard to give a fuck. I do a bunch of stuff, but the primary task is taking all these physical charts and scanning them into our Electronic Health Records system so that we can bill it. Depending how long the patient stays with us, a chart can take me up to an hour to fully scan in. Im the only one that scans in this department as well. My co workers are cool, but because of my own shit i mostly keep to myself and listen to podcasts while im scanning so I dont talk to folks much and they probably think im weird or an asshole. I get irritated kind of easily too but i think its because im zombie mode for 8 hours while im scanning haha.

Even if you don’t work for yourself you should always view yourself as your own brand so to speak. Make decisions and choices that benefit you and your family. But also be realistic with yourself. Regardless of what people say everyone is not meant to be their own boss and the headaches that come with it. There are times now that I wish the checks would be there on the 1st and 15th or whenever people get paid. I have to make payroll whether or not I get paid. I cant tell someone we billed them but they have not paid us so you can’t get paid. Only Jah knows how I feel sometimes. Also for anyone looking to leave a certain job to start their own thing make sure you have enough money in reserve. Never lost property but did have a car repo’d one time. That is the worse feeling in the world. Don’t let foolish pride and ego rush you. Everything happens in do time

The way companies are down sizing and crying budget. Loyalty is wishing your heart and how you provide for your family. As one door closes best believe one will open.

This society isn't build for people to attain tenure. 3/4 years at a job is what most do anyway these days. Unless you find that career; otherwise no one is really "THAT" happy with what they do!

Been there. Learned my lesson to never ever be loyal to a company again.

This should be Employee Rule #1.

Yeah I like to say I'm a good employee. With the experience I have, why wouldn't I.

Before the move, I was pretty much the go to person if anyone had any questions. Folks came to me before they went to management. Hell, MANAGENENT came to me 1st, before asking the other managers.

After the move...I just do my work. Seeing how they put people with far less experience in lead type position, over people like myself. But it re ally bothered me when they passed on my s/o for the supervisor's position, for someone less qualified.

That shocked a lot of folks. Even the one who got hired acknowledged my s/o should've got the position. After that, and being told I wasn't "qualified" for a lead position...a position that I had for 3 years btw...by that same supervisor, changed my outlook.

Now, I'm lookin out for me. That loyalty shyt Cain mentioned is pure fact. After being told that, I went back to my desk and wrote "Forge Your Own Path" on a sticky note, and posted it at the top of my monitor. Shortly after I enrolled back in school. No longer depending on them to move up.

I'm the employee that the bosses and co-workers love to hate

-I always get "she's an excellent worker but her she's arrogant and disrespectful"
-I challenge authority
-If I like you, you will know, if I don't like you, will know
-I will not engage you if I don't like you unless it's work related
-I don't respect leaders who can't lead
-I don't respect you if you are in a leadership position and you don't know shit. I will not train my superiors
-I don't hang with the good ole boys and I don't do social engagements
-I'm a quick learner and get my shit done so I can chill
-I'm always looking for more money so I am not loyal to you and your company but I will do my best work
-I use to be the person that came in 15 mins early. If I gotta be there at 9:00am. I'll be there exactly at that time.

As a boss
-I'm punctual
-Don't deal wit tardiness
-I'm a perfectionist and expect nothing less from you as an employee
-I don't give a fuck what you do as long as you're not compromising me, your job,and correctly finish in a timely manner
-I will fire you if I'm not satisfied with your work

The bold is what gets me in trouble. Tha't exactly how I conduct myself.

Please don’t take this the wrong way but I find to be a better employer you cant expect everyone to live up to what you would do if you were them. You have to be able to manage each person as an individual and maximize their talent to the fullest even if it falls short of your perfectionism. Hope that didnt come across wrong Sistren.

I never take constructive criticism the wrong way. I'm all ears.

I hire carpenters, painters, builders etc. My margin for error is very slim. In my profession a days set back can cost me hundreds or thousands of dollars. If hire a person who tells me they have a certain skill set for ABCD amount of years then you must live up to the expectations that you presented. I'm not saying that there is no error for mistake but you gotta do what you say you can do and do it well.

I'm managing 3 accounting managers and they have total 14 people that report to them. Managed teams up to 72 with 4 supervisors.

I'm the diplomat. I get along with everybody. People think it's because I really care, but in reality it's because I don't really give a fuck. Where most people would take offense, I just don't care enough to get pissed off.

But woe to the one that pushes me to give a fuck.

I'm bout to be my own boss once these grants come thru... but I'm the don't say shit to me, lt me be type dude. I ain't here to make friends and shit. Gimme my duckets and I'm a bounce soon. I mean I may smash a few of the chicks in other departments or on other floors

another great post.
i think everyone should entertain being a boss at sime point. you never know what you are good at if you don't try.

Im lazy as hell when i want to be. Mainly got this job because it was close to me and I had a kid but now its 5 years later. And im 30. This far from dream job but i like all my coworkers which i hear is rare.

But this aint my destiny not to sound like a anime character lol. But calling folks to collect on old debts for chump change aint it. Realizing i gotta do something i actually like.

The thought of being in a leadership type position use to never cross my mind.

But when I got promoted to Lead, and saw how folks valued my knowledge over management, wow. That shyt is encouraging.
