Have you put in a good word for a family member or friend ....

I put in a word for my dormmate back in college. I was working at kmart at the time. I was able to get him hired. We worked together a few times i think. I dont think he was there for more than 2 weeks. My manager asked me what was up with him. He did a no show. I didnt know.

So i get back to my dorm. I ask him what's up. He said he quit. I forget the reason, but I was like damn. You got me looking bad out here.
 
I have most of them lasted reasonable times.

One guy I know would always tell me bout how he tries to sue any place he works.....aside from all the underhanded shit he did.

He pulled it off a few times. The last time he did it he faked an injury, sued, won, got to keep "working" there on permanent light duty for a job that required constant labor, and got so greedy he tried to sue again and they finally found a way to terminate him.

All my life he's bragged about these same ol stories.

Imagine my non reaction when he eventually asked me to hook him up with a job.
 
It went the opposite way.

My wife, who was my best friend at the time, got me the hookup on a job with this mortgage company in town. She put in a good word for me 'cause I had got fired from the same spot two years earlier and I got back in there; shit was sweet.

... A few weeks later they gave her the boot.

I stayed there for 3 and a half years, even got hired in to the parent bank.
 
If it wasn’t for my best friend putting in a good word for me and getting me into the same industry he was in at the time… I damn sure wouldn’t be in it today and I remind him of this when I be going through it with other companies I hired on with. Like nig this your damn fault ! He knew me and knew what type of person I am so he didn’t mind putting my name out there. Until I eventually surpassed his skill level and did better renegotiating slightly better pay then what he was making with less “experience” boooooy was he mad AF 😂. He changed industries eventually and got out but I alway remind him if shit changes and wants back in I gotcha where Im at (different company then where we was back then).
 
My brother wanted a good word put in where I was at…. I was like…

Knowing him personally you not about to fuck up what I got going on and your not built for this type of work and your untrustworthy… he was mad af but owell 🤷🏾‍♂️.
 
When my wife was the HR manager for a supermarket she had me, her dad, her sister, her brothers girlfriend, and her sister husband all working there at the same time.

. It was actually pretty lit, tha cook outs were crazy that summer
 
When i think about it, that is how I got some of my IT jobs. Putting my resume online never worked for me.

My very first IT job was to migrate computers to Windows 7. My cousin told me that our uncle was dating a PM there. She put me on and got me an interview. I got the job. Also got my clearance there, which opened doors for me in the future.

My next IT job after that was a IT call center. My mom knew the director at the time there. My mom passed my resume to her. I took the interview and got hired. From here, I moved up. Went from desktop support to Network engineering.
 
Shit I got my job now cuz some old ass white dude died, and two of my old co-workers gave their manager my number....I never even had a formal interview. I just started working

He didn't get fired cause he worked for me and I could never cause that was my mans mans but he was objectively a terrible fit on my team. People were complaining. Shit I was complaining. Just had to learn from it.

Had another friend years later I fired after about a month. We haven't spoken since lol.

Learned this from another friend that got our other friend hired on working under him.. it was all cool for a little while until he did what he normally does after a few months.. starts getting cocky thinking he knows more then our mutual friends and is somehow a journeyman expert after just a few months. He started selling out the friend that got the job till they switched him onto someone else crew and of course that didn’t last long. Told him while all this was going on… don’t do exactly what he did and learn to fall in line shit. This years ago…. As of today he calling complaining to both me and out mutual friend that he can’t find steady work meanwhile… our mutual friend is still working doing the doing the same shit 😂.


Till this day I just can’t put in a good word for just anybody.. shit will backfire on you in a heartbeat. I’ve probably put in more good words for random guys I met working randomly at jobsites and working beside them then I had guys I personally knew.
 
My cousins helped my other cousin get a job when he moved back up here. He was working at that job for about 5 or 6 years, then quit to something else.
 
I was that bad friend today. Legit fell asleep at my desk for 20 minutes. But we had the soccer game on multiple tvs so no one was doing shit anyway.
