PRAISE: I went into this sequel saying they will really have to raise their game and provide ultra harrowing and involving situations to top the first movie. The movie starts off well enough with the Garritty family John (Gerard Butler), Allison (Morena Baccarin) and their diabetic son, Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis, replacing Roger Dale Floyd) living amongst others in a bunker avoiding radiation and super storms. But soon they are migrating for a part of the world that's liveable. Action sequences in the movie are very enjoyable as is the SFX that accompany them. Its here and there involving because I wondered what other factions the group was going to happen upon. There are some true well placed moments of panic. The movie hits the nail on the head when it displays as much as people are organized and civil during the beginning of a global disaster or pandemic all of that fades away with an evolving situation and its every man for himself.
PROBLEMS: The film stalls several times. The side characters were easily forgotten by the script and me. There is a heavy repetitive tone in the movie especially with various factions doing the same thing and I started to wonder why aren't they all unified in one goal? There is a standout unintentionally funny moment. Something is introduced in the first 30 minutes of the movie making the ending ultra predictable.
