No this takes place after Legendary's Godzilla movie which took place in 2014.

I'm there, but I'm having a hard time accepting the logic that waking these creatures is somehow going to save the planet.

Doubt Kong actually shows up in KOM

Prolly be another post credits tease but if i had to put money on it they gonna make us wait till 2020 to see kong & zilla on same screen
 
So the director said there will be more than 4 monsters in KOM.

Maybe it will be kong.

Or just a random kaiju for the other monsters to destroy
