I went back and watched some GGW

I think it was both, like you said. Watching the video reminded me of shit. It started out fake, then it blew up and they started the tour bus and stupid parties white frat boys were into. Then they were filming wet tshirt contests and having paid pro's do other shit. And frat bros/ old perverts ate it up and bought all that bullshit.

I never understood how it stayed so popular for so long, when people had access to real porn. They'd have him at red carpet shit on tv like he was this cool celebrity.

It blew up right at the peak of the MTV Spring Break shit where doing all sorts of wild shit for that 1 moment on TV and 15 minutes of fame led to people doing all sorts of wild shit.
 
Now that I got a chance to see that video about the doc. I'm 99.9% sure it wont reveal anything new. Seems like they're purposely being vague because they're just repackaging old shit and presenting it as new to get the views.

It wasnt just MTV that made Spring Break look lit. You remember E channels 'Wild On', series? Those 2 shows made it seem like it was the most fun you could have.

I remember all that shit. Even BET tried to get in on it with their Spring Bling thing for a few years. Spring Break was a legit marketing tool for corporations looking to get young folks to spend money flying to Mexico and Florida getting drunk. I remember MTV actually did a special once interviewing locals in a city in Florida talking about how much they hated them being there because of all the shit that companies like GGW and MTV would bring for the week or 2 they spent there filming
