Ned was stupid, that moral code got his head chopped off. If he would have just let it go his family wouldn't have got separated and he would still be alive. He was an honorable fool who went up against a clan of cut throats. Littlefinger told Ned to take Joffrey so Ned would be in control of him which means Ned would be in charge of the iron throne but Ned though that to be treason.
