Do you think that parents should automatically receive grace and forgiveness...

Automatically? Nah. but if they are actively trying I think SOME grace should be given depending on the situation.

Im not familiar enough with the Rodmans' situation 🤷🏽‍♂️

I remember she did an interview with ESPN when she first went pro and her talking about Dennis not really being in her life growing up. There's just comments in that say she should automatically forgive him because he's trying.

It takes time which isn't a bad thing cause you still need to have a sense of comfort allowing this person into your space, even if they are the reason you are on this planet

I read/watched a few of the insta slides before i tapped out. Was he being kept from seeing her, he just chose not to be around or some kinda combination of both?

People are who they are. Does anyone believe Dennis could have ever been a good traditional father. I'm not saying she should forgive him automatically, but she probably should take some time to consider who he is. She might come to the conclusion that he's doing his best. What more can anyone do?

From what I heard he just stopped coming around, I believe he still supported her financially but wasn't there physically

This and I also think she needs to see consistent efforts. From the clip it seems he pops in and out at his desgration which does nothing but triggers her.

I don't think she expecting some sort of traditional father/daughter relationship because that ship has sailed, but you can't say you want a relationship and then be inconsistent.

No.

People unfortunately put parents (and family in general) on a pedestal.

Everyone is forced to deal with the history that preceded them.

A lot of people act like they have Stockholm syndrome when it comes to family. I never understood it. If I don't like you, I don't like you, I don't care if we related or not. If you ain't do shit for me, I don't need you, I don't care if we related or not.

Young people today are definitely more willing to cut off family and never deal with them. I think that is a good thing.

The sad thing is, only reason she gotta bring up Dennis is because the sports media was hyping her up as Dennis's daughter, not knowing the nature of the relationship, basically he wasn't there.

Then he wanna pop up and be all in the video.

Like most situations it depends on the details. Parents can do some really fucked up damage to their kids sometimes and it's not always as cut and dry as abusive behavior. Perceived (or real) neglect or indifference from a parent is some shit I couldn't even comprehend.

In fact... let me call my mom real quick.

Dennis Rodman, was/is broke. He didn't support them financially according to Trinity and her mother.

WHEN RODMAN WAS a toddler, Michelle filed for divorce from Dennis. Proceedings and postponements would stretch out over the next eight years. The Rodman children were absent from their father physically, emotionally and financially. (Dennis could not be reached for comment on this story.) When Trinity was blooming on the field, she lived at an Orange County Comfort Inn with Michelle, DJ and her older sister Teyana Lima for almost a year. Michelle didn't want them to realize the depths of their struggles, so she turned their tenure into a game of sorts.

Some of us get parents, and some of us get the ingredients that make us great.

I know my mom and I know my dad. I know what’s great about me that I got from my mom, and I know what’s great about me that I got from my dad.

My parents were but mere ingredients in the stew that god used to make me the way that I am. I am grateful for that, and because I am grateful for who I am. I am grateful that he used them, and for him, I give them grace.

Some of us get parents, and some of us get what it takes to be great without them. That deserves grace.
