I see where he's coming from, but I think he's missing the mark. I don't think the problem is that black women don't want to invest in black men on the way up. Every major city in America has a few talentless wannabe rappers out there trying to sell mixtapes or stream songs, and all of them probably have black women helping them out.
I think the actual issue is that many black women just aren't attracted to certain kinds of black men on the come up. When a black man becomes a doctor and is making a lot of money, there are plenty of black women that want him. When he's just a nerd in school taking a bunch of science classes and working hard to get the grade, a lot of those same black women didn't even see him. I do think white women recognize that kind of potential more because they are raised to see it.

That's what you got from that? I don't know. Russ was a vet when he went to Denver. He didn't need a mentor. He just needed the right fit. The problem is that he went into that situation as a diva and it crashed and burned. If he had gone to Pittsburgh after Seattle, he probably would have flamed out there too. I honestly believe he did need to be humbled. Sometimes stars do get too full of themselves. They have to be brought back to earth to thrive.
Vick was an extreme example of that. He looked good for a while under Andy Reid, but that wouldn't have been the case if he was the same guy as he was in ATL.
