Lets discuss the problems and Solutions of Classism in our community.

The well off looking down on the poor.
The poor looking down on the well off.

Either someone is too hood.
Or labeled not black enough.

Ghetto or elitist.

W. E. B. Dubois spoke about this during his days at Fisk U.
He Said: that any black person at that time had to struggle to tear down barriers just to lift oneself and one’s family. But that was not enough: Successful black people, he said, must recognize that their place in life was merely a matter of opportunity. “If such opportunity were extended and broadened, a thousand times as many Negroes could join the ranks of the educated and able, instead of sinking into poverty, disease, and crime.”

Also read his published article called "The Philadelphia Negro"

Why are we not black enough because we make more and have different life experiences or because we dont have alot we are assumed ghetto?

Lets talk about how it can be fixed

I'm not sure you can "fix" this. It's simply a matter of perception from any persons viewpoint. Yes we all share common ancestors and have some similar experiences. But the haves and the havenots will always exist. That's just part of the human condition. It's not unique to the black race only. Everybody can't (and shouldn't) be on top.

What always amazes me about classism is the fact that the have nots and lower class would love to be in the wealthier situation

thats why it doesnt change

the "upper class" only do what they saw and wanted for themselves

even if you come from the lower side of things, once you got money its easy to get wrapped into the power trip

you feel "shitted on" for so long that you cant wait to "apply pressure" and "hurt niggas" all summer lol

and the cycle goes on

crazy when you think about it....all the flashy shit people do with money, is to impress people with less than them.....because the ones who have more than them dont give one fuck about a chain or designer jeans

I remember going to a resort for the first time....had a big wad of cash thinking I was doing something....them bitches didnt even take cash....I felt silly af....shit re-aligned some things for me lol

@Race Jones said some shit in the "black men....." thread that really stuck to me

she said "ya'll dont want change, you want control"

couldnt be more true....on several different topics and levels but it rings here too

I said before, people dont really want an even playing field....not even for our own kind

everybody wants to be "not like them niggas" over there....the only one on the block w/ this or that

if everybody got it, that flashy shit dont stand out anymore....you aint special and nobody wants to take a picture

and who wants that today? honestly.

I do

right, there will be a few people...

I meant todays young black society

tell them they all gotta be "regular niggas"

I'd be interested to see how that affects the women specifically

like would they start choosing for different qualities if money was made a non factor across the board?

I was just pissed, i wasnt trying to fight nobody lol

It's because the worlds are separated by what's deemed socially successful. When you leave the ghetto it doesn't take long to realize that, what made made you socially successful in the ghetto. Either means very little, or is even a detrimental to you outside the ghetto.

In a place absent of wealth, not absent of money, but absent of wealth. The appearance of wealth is deemed more important than actually having wealth. It's easy to obtain money, it takes hard work to gain wealth. Hard work takes time, appearences are happening now.

That vainity is a part of a pride that you need in order to survive in the ghetto. Not willing to even "appear" to be lesser than an other man, cause that brings danger and disrespect with it.

Check this scene

This guy at this job was seen as a ass kisser to his white boss. The other black workers called him a do boy, homie was always willing to work overtime and do things outside of his regualr job duties. So one day a position opens up for a leadership role and homie gets the job. To his Co workers from the ghetto, he got the job cause he kissed a white man's ass.

They saw all that he did as kissing a white man's ass. He saw it as showing the his boss that he is a capable employee with good work ethic. Because he was around during times they werent and the boss was around. The boss had already told him about the possibility of the role months ago.

All that they saw him doing that they believed was a weak nigga ass kissing. Was him proving to the boss that he could do what the job entails. Now he's their boss, and they expect him to be a different kind of boss cause he's black. And when and if he is not, they see him as a sellout.

Staying in the ghetto, he'd be deem a lame, outside of the ghetto, he's an asset to an employer.

At the same time..dude who became a boss saw his coworkers as lazy underachievers. Who's right in that case, each side gets it how they live.

very interesting.

whos wrong?

i would say the underachievers are wrong because they didnt want to go the extra mile...and ok with being average/ now they are among other average people and its more of them than people who want to get ahead with hard work. so they begin to influence others with the herd mentality to look at dude and people like dude as not like them and one of those type niggas who is the guy to steal on. now people who dont even know whats going on come along and because they are mentally weak with no guidance , they get on the herd bandwagon...even tho they want more out of life they dont want to be the guy who everyone looks at like the enemy. so they curb their dreams and try to not stand out.

then the cycle keeps going.

my dad always told me that its easier to stand with the crowd to your back than the crowd in your face.

I'd love it if I could buy an older exotic car, and roll that bitch wherever I wanted and not stand out. I want to be able to enjoy the shit I have and experience the places I want to visit without standing out.

so you saying you dim your light for people who dont have shit to be bright about?

Nah, not at all. Give you an example:

I want one of these in a bad way:

maxresdefault.jpg

I already know if I were to back out of the driveway and roll out in something like that niggas gonna immediately think I'm flossin, just trying to be seen but that ain't the case. I worked hard, I bought myself a nice "toy", I wanna drive my shit and be happy. Same goes with clothes and shit, I'd like to be able to have nice things but not really stand out, if you get what I'm saying. I ain't trying to floss, just trying to enjoy the fruits of my labor.

again right....that makes sense....you're older, dont have much to prove, you know what you like and want and know u gotta work for it

NOT AT ALL the mindframe of the youth.....im talking about the ones in the hood right now

I know some lil dudes that would rather DIE then be reduced to a day to day job, paying a mortgage, and having to "save up" for the things they want....that aint real, that aint life, that aint harlem b

how can you stop everybody from wanting the be THE MAN right now......shit every song is screaming im a boss, boss up, do boss shit, gotta be a boss

I never sat up and daydreamed about a house in the country and a couple domestic vehicles.....I wanted a condo over downtown I could have multiple women in and pop bottles nekkid

I guess my whole thing is making the kids see that the "normal" and "lame" life is exactly the opposite of that......if we cant make working and building families and buying homes more appealing then whats in their face all the time, it'll never get across....I know because i didnt wanna hear that shit

not comparing for measuring purposes, but I had white friends in school that had all this shit laid out from how they were raised....they knew what college courses they wanted to take, to get this specific job, then im gonna move to so and so, my parents say i should marry around 34, we'll buy a home, yadda yadda.....they had real life goals is what im saying....shit their parents put into them and had been molding them for, and they were excited and confident about going for it

I didnt know any black kids with that structure....we all knew we wanted to be fly and we gone live here and live there, but didnt have the slightest clue about HOW we would obtain that....it damn sure wasnt the corporate ladder...or even just paying our bills on time and building credit, to be able to get loans.....no idea smh
