FIFA World Cup 2026 🇺🇸🇨🇦🇲🇽

Added to Calendar: 34 dates

I find it mad that America seem so keen to throw money at football by promoting it and talk about how they want to produce talent but they price out low income/working class/blue collar families... They dont do that in American Football and Basketball do they???

Think how many immigrant communities there are in America, its crazy they dont hoover up elite talent... Millions or kids with, Mexican, Haitian, Jamaican, Italian, Korean and Japanese descent, not to mention the 10's of millions of African, South American and British families living over there... All these families are likely to be huge football fans, who would pass that passion down to their kids... To price them out is nuts...

Though you can have all the talent in the world but if you dont have elite coaches, even with a good pathway the kids wont fulfil their potential...

Soccer/football just doesn't and has never compared in popularity to basketball/American football in American culture. I think that's really all there is to it.

Im talking about pathways blocking and preventing low income and working class families from entering top programs... Thats nuts...

And with all the immigrant families who generally love the sport, the talent is there... Even if 4th, 5th and 6th+ generation fully Americanised Americans have no interested in the sport, theres still a huge talent pool...

Im sure if America started winning or competing more on the world stage, then the country would get more behind the sport... though it will never match NFL and NBA, as football just doesnt match American culture, its not Americana enough to be No.1 or No.2...

Yea again the barrier to entry has more to do with high school level imo. School infrastructure heavily supports American football/basketball and prioritizes it over other sports so most recruitment comes from private clubs which costs money. Some clubs might even prohibit you from playing high school.

The demand just isn't there like it is for the core American sports. Its the same with hockey.

For American soccer to get more popular I think it has to start from the ground up. I genuinely believe the world cup celebrations in the US streets would've been crazier and more appreciated if Mexico won than if the US did.
