There was a study I read many years ago that showed gender (ie being a woman) was a huge advantage in the judicial system for receiving a lesser sentence for the same crime, all things being equal. Add the white factor and her being "blonde and neotenous", I can see why she felt the odds would be in her favor. The having babies was her doubling down on her femininity
