What does black tie mean to you:
Gents: Business suits or tuxedos?
Ladies: Floor length gowns or knee length cocktail dresses?

I've seen a whole spectrum of attire under the same dress code.

Bonus: How would you define smart casual or business casual?

hmmm....those "codes" can mean totally different things depending on where you are and what type of function

im sure business casual in some big city is slacks and button up w/ no tie, maybe even sleeves rolled up

business casual here is nice jeans, boots/loafers, and a polo

Never been to a "black tie" event, dont really wanna speak on what I dont know but I would take that as business suits, but your best.....tailor made shit

I've only been to a black tie affair once and it was the most stuffiest boring shit ever.

But to answer the question, black tie affair to me is tux and something formal.

Business casual can be defined two different ways. Sports jacket nice shirt nice shoes and jeans to jacket slacks, button up and nice hard bottom's

If im not mistaken black tie means tuxedo, bow tie, cummerbund, the whole nine. Im not sure what it means for ladies

All of these terms are subjective to who is throwing the even like haf said.

ah ok see I woulda been the bummy nigga at the black tie function

I really didnt think people wore Tux's to shit outside of weddings, ballroom events, and shit like that

we have Mardi Gras balls and shit like that where it would work

otherwise you'd look like an idiot wearing a tux here

they gone call you the thrifty liquor man
