DJ Quik says he deserves to be where Dr Dre is

The Chronic and Doggystyle are probably the most prominent hip hop albums of interpretations

And Dre always had the industry machine behind him for marketing & promotion that help build his mystique. Something Quik never had.

Dre cultivated relationships and partnerships in the game. Raw talent Quik maybe better but business wise Dre is far more superior

Yeah thats a fair point too...

I think Dre kind of knew from day one he wasnt the clear best at anything (other than seeing potential/opportunities) when he started out... Like in NWA he wasnt the best rapper, he wasnt really a writer, he didnt have the character or voice of Eazy to fall on and both Yella and Arabian Prince could do what Dre done in terms of DJing and helping produce...

Dre worked his ass off though, networked and bet on himself and found a way monetise things from a business prospect... Even after failures he still bet on himself and came good...

"Deserve" is the wrong word. You have to "take" to get to the top.

And DJ Quik's music doesn't crossover to The East Coast.

I was 18/19 When Niggaz4life and The Chronic dropped. Both albums were huge in Massachusetts.

DJ Quick's music didn't get any play in The Bean. We saw his videos on MTV and BET but he didn't get the same love as Dr Dre.

For whatever reason, Dre's music crossed over to The East Coast and Quik didn't.

Still self-pity and “woe is me” aren’t qualities I find admirable

Let’s see if Quik follows this up with some self accountability and a brief list of missteps and things he could have done differently

I’m not sure how any sane person can listen to mix and still doubt Quik skillz and why he’s equal to or (IMO) exceeds Dre in the production realm

One of the best… best of…mixes I’ve ever heard, And considering I make the pretty damn GOAT level mixes myself, that’s saying something
