I've heard of that pay their tab thing, but never seen it in practice. Usually cashiers have to sign a contract stating that there is a certain amount their till can come up short within a given time period, and if they were to go over this amount i the time period they would get a corrective action. If it continues they would be fired.

Actually I've seen 100's and 50's printed on $5 bill paper. So it pass the marker and the UV test if folks wasn't really paying attention to the details. When held up under the light you could see Lincoln face in the background.
