In 2005, Denver residents voted to become the first major U.S. city to legalize possession of small amounts of marijuana. Two years later, they voted to decriminalize cannabis entirely. For the city’s elections this spring, they’re being asked if they want to do the same thing for psilocybin, the active ingredient in hallucinogenic mushrooms.

If passed, Initiative 301 would decriminalize the possession and use of a drug that is illegal in all states and at the federal level. No matter the result, it marks the first time in United States history that the legal status of psilocybin has been challenged, and it’s putting Denver once again at the center of a debate on drug policy.

The local campaign to decriminalize psilocybin is following the cannabis legalization playbook closely. The initiative is worded almost exactly like the 2007 marijuana law. If passed, psilocybin would still be illegal to possess, produce, or sell, but enforcing the laws related to the drug would become the city’s lowest priority. The measure would also create a mayor-appointed panel charged with analyzing the effects of loosening psilocybin restrictions. Voters began receiving ballots by mail last week, and the election coincides with mayoral and city council elections on May 7.

Yes.

Not really. Most psychedelics aren't exclusive to white people.

Think the 60s and 70s as one example.

Stop taking things so literal. Of course white people weren’t the only ones using shrooms.

U ever done shrooms?

the only thing I know about shrooms is they make you hallucinate, and no, I’ve never used them, but I’ve heard many stories and watched this kid in autoshop trip on shrooms.

People who do it are gonna do it regardless of legality

I don’t think they should be considered criminals though

decriminalize, sure

legalize so that they will sell em in shops across the state? nah. Keep it where it stays where it’s at... in the streets... I’ve never met a shroom dealer in my life, only ppl who sell weed, meth, crack and coke, and various pills... I sure in hell don’t want it more easily accessible...

According to the OP, the vote is over whether to decriminalize

I did shrooms 2x and didnt "hallucinate" either time.

So u see the details in things that u never have before. Like if u look at a blanket u see every stitch and texture almost like your eyes are microscopes. Trees look amazing. I can stare at trees for ever on shrooms.

But more than visuals it makes u feel different emotionally and look at life. Its hard to explain. It takes u somewhere else in your mind.

based on the title it doesn’t match the article then

that’s why I skipped over the article, I don’t need reasons for legalization...

shame on me for not reading but shame on the TS for fucking up the first impression as well..

@Northside7 how would u describe a mushroom trip?

It all depends on how many mushrooms you eat.

One mushroom is enough to have some hallucinations. You'll laugh a lot and feel the need to move around and be active. The small little details will be a lot more noticeable when it comes to the audio and visual aspect of things.
