Complex's Top 50 L.A. Rappers of All-Time

IMG_4438.jpeg

Game is the best rapper from that coast.

Game, Cube, then everybody else.

West coast niggas ain’t even that nice to have a top 50. It’s 12 niggas from over there that can rap.

Game is lyrically dope but he name drops and talks too much in interviews like when he was naming the number of Kardashians he been with. And his situation now is crazy, knowing you about to lose your mansion because you didn't show up to court to fight the case.

I don't care about the ranking, but I like Game's music for the most part. Its rare I listen to one of his albums and don't find at least a few dope tracks. The dude is pretty ill with the pen.

Its interesting that he teamed up with 50 because Game reminds me of 50. Both are very underrated rappers when people talk about MCs, and they can be super trolls when they feel like it. Game is like the street level boss-villain version of 50, who rose up to a higher level of street tier bosses.

what are his paramount songs and albums ? hate it or love it... documentary. ... then?

one can like his music but nothing was pivotal or gravitational about his works ...

even if one were to remove the silliness, what "legacy" would he have? hollowness like "bringing the west back"? lol

I personally think Game at the bottom half of the top ten but him at 11 isn’t completely terrible.

It really do feel like the niggas with the most negative reactions ain’t even from out here lol.

Game outside antics have definitely hurt his output and standing with other rappers… but not so much his legacy. His place as the 2000’s west coast torch bearer been locked in since at least 2007.

I've personally never liked game as a rapper. To me he was just never that good, and it always catches me off guard when people who I respect the hip hop opinion of are high on him.
This. I did like the documentary when it came out. Still play some songs to this day. I listened to doctors advocate a little bit but got burnt out on him after that. He flows cool, but dont ever really be saying shit besides name dropping and saying west coast things we've heard for years. Gangs, cars, etc. Never had a song that really wowed me unless 50 was on it.

I did love the whole g unot years though.

Non black American culture vulturing aside...

Dre arguably could be number one or not on the list at all, which is dope duality

Eazy could be number one for being the financier of it all

Snoop and Cube arguably could be number one despite having mentors/people above them who put them on (Dre, eazy) it's arguable that they surpassed them

Crooked I arguably could be number one because he is THEE nicest rapper in LA history. If we're talking pure rap ability, no accomplishments or nothing else he's number one

Nipsey arguably could be number one on some sentimental revisionist shit

K dot is number one, arguably
