Can Somebody Describe What Grunge Rock From Seattle Is?

5 Grand

Old School Godfather
I remember in the early to mid 90s there was a bubble of grunge music.

I think Nirvana was one of the big groups.

But what exactly is grunge? And why is it different from ordinary rock?

Your threads are basically brain farts.

You act like wikipedia doesn't exist
Bruh shit has been around for decades and you’re just now asking what it is? Stop acting like you don’t know who Nirvana is lol
I gotcha.

Well I know I can look things up on Google and wiki, but the purpose of a messageboard is to be able to dialogue back and forth. For example if you ask a question, then somebody else can answer it and then you ask that person to clarify a few details.

You guys don't understand how message boards work?

Then just say what is your opinion on what grunge music is? You know what it is.

Honestly I don't listen to much Rock. A lil classic Rock like Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin but that's about as far as it goes.

I remember Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana, which I thought was cool, but I didn't like it enough to listen to the album.

Also, I remember in high school (class of 91 so before Grunge) people made a distinction between Heavy Metal vs Punk. I remember I used to ask people to explain the difference and they couldn't. But now with the internet I've come to the conclusion that the musicianship in Metal is better than Punk. Punk is like a mockery of music. But I still don't understand what separates Grunge from Metal from Punk from Hard Rock.

Edit. I remember thinking at the time, "It all sounds the same, maybe they're just rebranding it as something else".

Bolded...you missing out.

Nevermind is a CLASSIC

The real question is why did Rock music fall off from mainstream ?

I think it happened a long time ago. Basically Rock ran out of ideas.

I mean, if you have a drummer, bass player, electric guitar, keyboards and lead singer, mathematically there's only so many combinations of notes you can play. There's only so many combinations of lyrics you can write.

I remember when Grunge came out I really couldn't tell the difference between 80s Rock and Grunge. But I can say for sure now, there's no possible way in 2021 that you could do something with drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and lead singer that hasn't already been done.

I felt the same way about Hip Hop but I must admit that the new Hip Hop has deeper sub-bass than the stuff I grew up on.

There is a very distinct difference from the 80s Hair Metal bands (Motley Crew, Guns and Roses, Poison) and 90s Grunge (Nirvana, Pearl Jam)

you are basically saying the equivalent of 80s and 90s hip hop sounds the“same” when we know that not to be true
