Sometimes being the hero means saving the villain.

Do your kids go to predominantly black schools
Elementary

Highschool
College

And do you think going to or not going to a predominantly black school impacts your overall blackness or black experience??? 🤔

I went to predominantly black up until college, college was mostly white.

Wife went to predominantly white, them went to an HBCU. Mainly because she wanted to go to a predominantly black school to get a black experience.... something I never even considered.

My kids been in all black schools thus far.
My son almost ended up at a white school, but they followed us home and determined we didn't live in their district so they threatened us with legal action. I was like fuck it, I really didn't want my son going to school with a bunch of white kids anyway.

My kids schools mostly Hispanic

My middle schooler participated in a student protest yesterday

Almost the entire 8th grade class walked out and marched around the southside chanting FUCK ICE

I could not agree mo

I've always been curious about why grew up around white people and struggle to connect to the black experience as a child.

Majority Black until college. That was a serious culture shock for me being around that many white people. And I never really got fully comfortable either. I went to a school that was 87% white and came out of it with only saying there's 3 white folks I still actually keep in contact with. Even in that environment I didn't really hang out with them that often

Predominantly black schools all the way up to junior year in high school then went to a majority white magnate school for science and math. Then went to an HBCU for undergrad and a PWI for grad.

I was in parochial schools from K-4th grade. There was a solid mix of Black and white kids in the school 'cause Black folks (and to a lesser degree Mexicans) in the 70's and early 80's put a high value on sending their kids to private/catholic schools, so my schools had a decent mix. 5-7th was in a gifted school and there were fewer Black and Mexican kids. Just took a look at my 6th grade class picture and out of 23 kids, 4 of use were Black, 3 were Mexican, and the rest white. The other 6th grade gifted class had maybe two more Black kids in it. We moved to Detroit the summer after the 7th grade and from that point on it was all Black except maybe one or two white kids depending on the year.

Prek-2nd grade lived in NY majority was Blk/Hisp not many whts.

Moved to the rural south 3rd grade and lived with my auntie for the first 1.5 years in the burbs until my parents got situated and made it down.. school was mostly white w/ 3 black kids in the whole school shit was a completely 180 from how it was in NY. We were all friends obviously but I also had a few white friends, occasionally you’ll deal with other whites who thought throwing that N word around was cool etc, several got hands put on them it just what it was back then. Wasn’t uncommon to see the confederate flag

Middle school was mixed.

High school mixed.

What little college I did go too… mixed.

There’s a lot more diversity in the town I lived in nowadays than what it was when I grew up. You don’t see the whole confederate flag nowadays like you did back then and there’s more and more of every race living there.

Growing up, I thought I'd end up at a white college.

Never even considered an HBCU, but going to Hampton was probably one of the best decisions I ever made.

You can't experience anything like this at a PWI homecoming:

Elementary and middle school was like 20% black, then I moved in grade 8 and went to a junior high for a year and a half that had like 5 black kids total lol. High school was like 25% black. University was probably 10%.

Definitely did some cooning and definitely learned some hard lessons dealing with other races but I wouldn't change anything. I still talk to my high school day ones everyday in the group chat and we link up often. (7 black, 4 white, 1 Indian)
