So was having a discussion about the movie.

While everyone had their valid points...one person got the whole room quiet.

here kinda how the convo went.

random person3: Our people are of God. And african tribes at times worship paganism and animals. Our God doesnt want us idolizing another God. Its not the christian way.

random person2: But these are our ancestors. This is where we came from. Even if you don't agree, this is where we came from. This is what they practiced.
random person3: But its of the devil.
Random person4: But how do we know christians are not of the devil? it has been used to oppress people and causes wars and death.
random person3: But those people dont know God. The masks in the movie was evil. Because they worshiped the devil or another diety, is why black people are confused and lost.
Random person4: But Christian religion was forced on us. We were brainwashed in a way. It helped keep our people afraid to rise up. Instead we wanted to be good and wait on a savior that hasnt came for generations.

then chaos ensued.

So i ask the people of ABW

our forced religion or our ancestral religion.

what is better for us?
what was better for us?
were we brainwashed to not think our ancestral religion was helpful?
was the movie a way of saying the devil was working within black people for centuries?
were we made to believe our captors religion was better for us to the point that some of us reject where we came from? Has our captors religion turned us away from who we truly are? Made us bible thumpers and protectors of the captors and enslavers beliefs? Are these bible thumpers doing the work for the oppressors in hopes of getting to a place we are not sure exists?
Why place chains on a persons body when you can enslave their mind by promising them utopia in the afterlife for behaving while being oppressed.

this is not to discredit anyones belief.....but i am curious how others see it

Did white men alter, emphasize and omit certain things...specifically to what scripture says about slavery...yes....that is also FACT

And to this very day when black people say certain things, certain black folks will talk that weak stuff and make it seem like you’re wrong. These people have been conditioned.

No. Not at all.

Its an atrocity that our ancestors were forced into an altered and manipulated Christianity and those effects have affected generations of people.

Ethiopia is an african culture that practices Christianity...but it looks radically different from how Black Americans practice...because Christianity was in Ethiopia way before colonizers

Trust, those that committed this horrible crime against our ancestors are paying for it. unrepentant wickedness does not go unpunished

Does Ethiopia practice Judaism in their Christianity? I still know Haile Selassie is still referred to as the Lion of Judah which is a biblical term for Christ...

They still adhere to cultural hebrewism. There are many who consider themselves jews as well. There was a big deal about them moving to Israel years ago...

Anything that promises eternal damnation to someone because they don’t worship in a specific way is bullshit. It’s contradictory to everything that God/Allah/Yahweh, or any other deity, supposedly stands for. Can’t rock with people that are so brainwashed they can’t recognize that truth.

Someone should’ve thrown person 3 out on their ass.

Yea.. they give niggas sunday to pray to white jesus, pray for a freedom and a salvation that wouldnt come to many.. and yeah they are godless and have used a bastardized religion, science to justify their racism

Ok i get it religion all religions that have millions of followers are used to brainwash and control people, used to rationalize war on non believers and all other forms of oppression. Christianity and Islam are just the biggest and most known and both religions are prominent in slavery.

I think knowledge of past religions and the ones our ancestors worshipped is needed for more reasons than I can name. And you be in Latin America so I know you and @Goldie probably seen Santeria in those areas which is a combination of vodoo mixed with Catholic. In the US the Cogic churches and people catching the Holy Ghost is from that same Voodoo. As someone stated Ethiopian Christianity was formed in its own bubble. I think Islam in Africa has alot of syncretism as well with traditional religions.

I feel every individual takes religion differently if they are allowed too. Nat Turner was fully a Christian but he wasnt docile or meek. I really dont think us being Christians kept us from rebelling though. White violence did all that.

Veneration for our kin folk is a good thing and i think by treating anything outside of Christianity and Islam as automatically the Devil is a throwback to ancient times. Like one god is worshipped in one city another god is worshipped in a different city. So say a ruler of one wants to take over the other they can make it religion based and get the war started.

Blind followers are dangerous but the folks who influence the ignorance and violence is the real issue.

And it can go for any religion or way of life. Especially the hypocrisy part. Because Christians be like its only one God and thats it snd he jealous. But we not supposed to be jealous and who is God jealous of ?

For all we know(believers) God couldve been just a creator with no other power but creation and everything could be up to us.
