Black divas in film

Duwop

I been drinking Don Julio since I got here!
Mod Squad
I'm at the neighborhood bar right now....

We watching drumline...

And while this may not be at the top of black cinema...

As a leading lady in black film Zoe did her thing in this shit..

However, I feel like this era belonged to Sanaa and Nia.....

But it made me think....

We need a thread giving them all props.....

Nah, Regina King is the bar

Man

I didn't know how deep of an actress Regina King was really until I saw Watchmen

She fucking killed it

Is this thread simply to celebrate black women in film? I'm asking for clarification because "diva" can be used in different ways.

To the topic at hand I love Regina King.

One of my true favorite black actors is Taraji Henson! I think I just love the way she carries herself publicly as a person more than anything though. Lol. She just seems like a super fun person who doesn't take herself too seriously. Not to mention she is beautiful

I'm sitting here really thinking about this subject and it's kinda sad that more black ladies don't get more diverse roles. Angela Bassett is one of the gold standards for black actors Male or female in my opinion. She has a some what diverse portfolio when it comes to roles.

Octavia Spencer is also really good and doesnt get as much credit I feel she deserves. I used to love Sanna Lathan but I haven't really seen her as much in stuff these days.

Queen Latifah has a some what diverse catalog and doesn't get enough credit for being a good actor I feel

My favorites for this era is Regina King and Nia Long.

What sealed the deal for me with Nia Long was how great she was as Roxanne Shante mother in that Netflix movie. That was a role I'd never seen her play before and she killed that shit. Showed me a range I never thought she had.

Sanna got knocked down some rungs for me cause I felt she was wack as shit in that show on fox

I haven't really watched anything that Taraji has been in besides baby boy, I can't even name another movie she's in
