Gonna try to do a tournament for each year. Everybody here should be at least some what familiar with hip hop from 1988-now.

Everybody can drop up to 3 songs as their picks. If you drop more than 3, i'm only counting the first 3. The songs with the most mentions will be entered into the bracket.

To eliminate confusion, we're counting the year the album that the song is on was released.

If the single released in 1988, but the album released 1989, then that won't count for this tournament.

If the song never made an album, then it's based on when the single was released.

The Boys In The Hood (Remix) definately should be in the discussion.

Also, Live @ Union Square by Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince was recorded in November 1986 but it was released on their 1988 album. That's probably the best performance I've ever heard.

Do you guys realize in 1988 I was a freshmen/sophomore in high school and I used to stay up on the weekends and tape the college radio shows. I knew every rap song that came out. I could probably name 100 songs from 1988.

Asking me to narrow it down to 3 is tough but I can do it.

1. The Posse Is Large - MC La Kim

2. The Symphony (album version)

3. Talkin All That Jazz - Stetsasonic.
