FEATURED Benny The Butcher: The Streets No Longer Run Hip-Hop, The Nerds Do

test
If i had to guess he's prolly bitter on some

"If we had came out in 1998, we'd be the biggest act in the game"

And while i don't necessarily disagree, i do think that the sentiment that the have is ran by nerds is kinda corny. Just like it was corny when Jim Jones used to hate on Kanye and back pick rappers....

The game has gotten smarter, it has changed as a whole... But i don't think that's necessary a bad thing. Cuz guys like Dave East, Tee grizzley, YB NBA still gotta lane and a fan base.... But it's not a bad thing guys like Drake, Tyler, Rod Wave are in the game... It shows how wide the shit stretches.. Everything ain't gotta be for street niggas
Benny said this like it’s 2012 lol

Bring back the days when Niggas like this ran Hip Hop.

his base and fans (like myself) ...have grown up and move other to big world issues like family, mortgages, keeping healthy for longevity...whereas Griselda music is classic new age 90's drug boom bap...he hasn't changed..and hip hop is not selling like it used to...so he needs to find another direction to pay for his lifestyle...this is why rappers have moved into the crowded podcast space...

It's kinda like when little brother started getting repetitive

Dope beats, dope rhymes, what more do y'all want?

They dropped like 2 albums complaining how they don't sell cuz they not hood enough... Like it's two sides to every coin...

Niggaz blame everything but the work they put in

Honestly if them niggas had came out like 2007 even with south taking over they woulda had more shine. But to me by the time I heard about them I liked rappers with that style but better

A lotta people think it's just about being nice. You gotta establish a connection with your fan base.. Niggaz know Griselda nice.... But their fan base is aged out for the most part... They didn't come in the game grabbing the attention of 16 year olds
.. They came in getting props from nigga 30+ who liked the throw back sound... And instead of accepting their lane
.. He's saying the game is run by nerds

Which is dumb as fuck when you see all these little crash out rappers still doing their thing. They just connect with the youth in a way Benny can't

I think hes talking from a consumer/critic perspective

Like how and I hate to use him as an example, like AK has more pull than idk a DJ in Atlanta

Either way he sound like a bitter bitch.

This nigga think Ray Ray, with 3 bodies and still sell a lil something on the side, was writing 1000 word editorials in the Source back in 95 or something. :foh5:

It's always been the " geeks and nerds". Just now with SM they aren't restricted to when and where they can put out their work.

I don't think niggas realize how bad "the streets" were getting fucked over for their money, and how little influence they had over their careers when the streets allegedly ran hip hop.

Like the whole NWA vs Ice Cube beef was centered around Jerry Heller

lol the business been ran by………

Benny prolly referring to the era of the black executive that started w J Prince and Suge knight and ended after Cash Money/young money mid 2000s run

Griselda could have had a trajectory similar to the Lox had they came out that time... And they had to adapt to fit the era they were in as well.

Jada was doing songs with Mariah and Mya cuz he knew heroine bars alone wasn't gonna cut it
