Any Tradesmen Here? I'm Tryna See Sumn...

Are you interested in IT at all?

You should look up manual software testing or SQA.

Easiest job ever, you dont need to know any languages, and can start at 60-70k and work your way up to a 100k.

Its how I got my start in IT. Let me know if its something that interests you and I can share more detail.

Gabby,

Both fields need black woman.
I would encourage you to seek information in both fields as you can find success in both!
I know a lot of people in the trade field and they make well financially.

Please do this before you take the turn especially if you go to a trade...research the desired field (carpentry,ELECTRICAL,glazier etc) and make sure the demand is needed in your area and surrounding parts..obvi a electrician or electrical worker is always needed.
We support you Gab!!!

@AZTG whats this
manual software testing or SQA you speak of??

Currently working on my general contractor license and only interested in focusing on the light commercial side of the game. Not really a fan of residential trades because the customer sometimes want to make costly changes at the last minute (for example - where light switches and sockets should be placed, they dont like the types of lights installed etc) With commercial electrical, its more specific and clear-cut in accordance with the scope of work / change orders and you can possibly get your money quicker

I'm exploring options for a career change....Looking at electrician but am open to anything. Any information, experiences, etc are welcome and appreciated.
Conflict is/was an electrician. I was a electrician for about month then went another route.

You can make good money but it take time. Master electrician are highly paid

SQA stands for Software Quality Assurance.

The idea behind is think about any website you use or any app on your phone. When they are in the development phase, they need to be tested. Thats where SQA comes in, to test the app while its being developed.

In this case testing the app means to use it the way you would regularly use the app as a customer.

Lets take your banking app for example. If you were working on that app as an SQA, a typical day would be like this. You would be given a list of tests to run. These tests would have every step written out for you. It would he like step 1 - enter user name field. You would enter your username and if the characters you typed appeared as you typed them on the screen you pass the test, if not you fail it. Step 2 - enter password in the password field. Step 3 - click sign button. And so on. You would just follow these steps to try and get the expected results. And do that for all the functionality on the app.

SQA is kind of a life hack. You end making as much money as nurses and doctors and its really a job a monkey could do.

Sounds interesting...what training do you need and how long it take

Yea I'm noticing in my area theres a lot of property development going on. I was interested in saving to buy an investment home and see how it worked out but idk how that housing bubble gonna hold up. Figure electrician is the best way to get in on it.

Based on that I have to agree with whoever said something about being a general contractor.

"A general contractor often hires specialized subcontractors to perform all or portions of the construction work."

That way you have some knowledge of just about all facets of what's going on. You specialized in one area someone can get over on you in the area you don't have knowledge in.

Housing bubble or not people will always rent properties. Look for a property in area that might appeal to consistent quality renters. Also be very knowledgeable in landlord tenant laws.

Fam I got you but its a little harder for you cause you already got your career.

Look up a company called zynergy. They in greensboro. A couple of people I know got their start there. They hire people with no experience and teach them the job while paying them. Issue is they low ball on the pay. They'll pay like $17-$20 an hour.

Its good as fuck for someone who is looking to establish themselves and doesn't wanna worry about going to school and getting a degree. A company like zynergy will pay you while teaching you and once you learn and get a year of experience you can start applying for $30-35 an hour jobs, and in a few more years you add a few technical skill and get in the $45-50 range.

For someone like you who is already an engineer somewhere thats a huge pay cut though.

NC is a top 3 state for IT jobs though, especially Charlotte so you will have mad options.

My office is actually out of gboro but I work remotely from Charlotte. The pay is great but this travel a bitch I cover all of NC,SC and GA. I stay on the road man

There are different ways to get in. There isnt an official way to get into it really.

The easiest way is to look up SQA training in your area and try to find companies that will hire you and teach you. these companies wont usually ask for any technical knowledge or degrees. They will usually put you in a class with like 10 people for a few days and pick out the most enthusiastic people and hire them. They look for hungry people that show them they are fast learners. If you get picked, and take my word for it its hard not to get picked, they hire you and put you on a project where they teach you as you work.

The way I got into it was I found an unofficial 2 month course that taught how SQA worked took it. Its unofficial cause its not a real school and you dont get a cert or anything. You just pay them and they teach you. So i took that class, learned what i had too, created a fake resume with 5 years of experience and gave it out to recruiters and applied to contracting jobs. There is less of a chance of background checks when it comes to contracting jobs. So I did that, did 8 interviews, learned from them, and got a job on my 9th interview.

The first way is easier, the second way got a much better payoff cause you can bypass starting salary and start at like 70k.

Anyone interested should try both ways at the same time. look up sqa jobs on monster.com where you live and try to find companies that will hire you and teach and at the same time look up a raggedy ass SQA school and try to learn and cheat your way in.

If you do some research and decide you might actually wanna try to get into it, I can try helping

My brother is an electrician. He makes good money, not including all the side jobs he does.

It can be taxing work though. Digging trenches, pulling wire, in hot ass attics all day. But if you like working with your hands and not mind working in a male dominated work force I would do it.

If I had to do it all over again I would have skipped college and got a trade.
