Republican gubernatorial nominee Ron DeSantis urged Floridians not to “monkey this up” by voting for his Democratic opponent, Andrew Gillum, who is African-American.

“It’s disgusting that Ron DeSantis is launching his general election campaign with racist dog whistles,” the Florida Democratic Party chairwoman, Terrie Rizzo, said in a statement soon after the Fox News appearance.

“We have to work hard to make sure we continue Florida going in a good direction. Let’s build off the success of Governor Scott. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state. That is not going to work, that’s not going to be good for Florida”

Fox News’ Sandra Smith addressed the controversial comments Rep. Ron DeSantis made in an interview with her on America’s Newsroom.

The aspiring Republican candidate for Governor of Florida is facing significant outrage for saying that his state cannot “monkey this up” by electing progressive candidate Andrew Gillum, who is African-American. Shortly after her interview with DeSantis, Smith addressed the comments by providing a statement from his campaign and a notice that Fox News doesn’t condone what he said.

“A little while ago, we had Ron DeSantis, the Republican nominee for governor in Florida on for an interview to discuss the Florida election. During the interview, he made what some are calling an inappropriate comment about his democratic opponent, Andrew Gillum.

DeSantis has since clarified his comment in a statement, saying, ‘Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum Espouses. To characterize it as anything else is absurd. Florida’s economy has been on the move for the last eight years and the last thing we need is a far-left democrat trying to stop our success.’

We do not condone this language and wanted to make our viewers aware that he has since clarified his statement.”

Heard a couple of his responses. Yea, i respect the high road talk n all. But talkin bout Florida ppl are better than this n all that. smh, i dont kno bruh. I have ZERO faith in white ppl. Ppl forget if it wasnt for blk women, they woulda elected pedo roy moore. Zero faith, i say.
