American Gangster~Jay Z: An Appreciation Thread

How could you leave me?
I thought that you needed me
When the world got too much and you pleaded with me
Who helped you immediately?
How speedy of me
How could you deny me so vehemently?
Now your body is shakin', tryna free it of me
And your soul is in control, tryna lead it from me
And your heart no longer pledge allegiance to me
Damn, I'm missing the days when you needed the D

Also the last time we heard Hov and Beans on a record

The first Jay album w no Ye production in a decade plus

Funny I was listening to this album at the start of the week for the first time in years...

It was a great album, I remember after Kingdom Come I was thought Jay may had fallen off as I really didnt feel that album but American Gangster reassured me he was still a giant...
I think by then the nigga had just ran out of the shit to rap about

tying the album to the movie and story gave him shit to rap about

Skinny nigga, toothpick, but, but I do lift
Weight like I'm using 'roids
Rolls-Royce keep my movements, smooth while maneuvering
Through all the manure in the sewer that I grew up in

top two jay album for me

Aside from like the obvious songs in his catalog, this is my favorite Jay song

'Member when Sean came out of "retirement" to make this album b/c he was "inspired" by the movie?

I'm listening to 👇 so I was inspired to make this thread

My favorite "in the whip" track 👇...shit gets me hype and makes me drive fast

Don't want no smoke but.........he came outta retirement with this album....
