But they aren't that ordinary or common. In the US only like 1 out of every 165K flights end in fatal crashes. To put it in perspective, you have a 1 in ~15K chance of getting hit by lightning. In other words, you're 10 times more likely to get hit by lightning than you are to die in plane crash.
