Know what’s wild, this just came across my mind.

I didn’t get a check up at the doctor till I was in my 20s, never been to the dentist till I was in my 20s, never had my eyes check till I was in my twenties.

Never had health insurance till I was in my twenties, got it through my job.

When I was like 24 my grandmother called me one day and told me that she think it’s time that I take over the payments for the life insurance policy that she got on me.

Back then, I just laughed at that shit, like, I’m not paying nobody for some shit you did on my behalf.

Early this year it hit me, black parents would get a life insurance policy on their kids, and never get health insurance.

Only time you went to the doctor was when it was risk of losing a limb or your life.

No wonder so much of us grew up ready to die
