A devastating mass shooting in Louisiana has left eight children dead and a community reeling.

Shreveport Police say officers responded Sunday morning to reports of a domestic disturbance. In total, 10 people were shot ... eight of them children, ranging in age from just 1 to 14 years old.

Authorities say the suspected gunman fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle nearby and led officers on a chase. Police opened fire during the pursuit, and the suspect was killed.

Investigators believe the suspect acted alone, and officials say some of the victims were related to him.

Police described the scene as "extensive," spanning at least three locations ... underscoring the scale of the tragedy.

The suspect died after a police pursuit, and the victims — who ranged in age from 1 to about 14 years old — included children related to the gunman, said Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon. Investigators did not say what may have set off the attack.

Police said the attacks began before sunrise in a neighborhood south of downtown Shreveport when the suspect shot a woman at one home and then drove to the other location “where this heinous act was carried out.”

Seven children were killed inside the second house, and one was found dead on the roof after apparently trying to escape, Bordelon said.

State Rep. Tammy Phelps said some children tried to get away through the back door. “I can’t even imagine what the police officers, first responders actually dealt with when they got here today,” she said at a news conference.

Demming later went outside and saw the covered body of a child on the home’s roof. She said she did not know the gunman’s name.

Men have to be better to prove otherwise, because all I see is ego fueled by men suddenly failing to feel like men, so they do the only thing men think they can do well, and be violent.
