Dan Patrick is asking for perspective as the NFL training camp hype machine, yet again, spins out of control.

“It’s the first phase of NFL training camp — it’s the hype phase,” Patrick began. “You know the drill. Whether it’s one moment, a quote, maybe a clip, something goes viral, and then all of a sudden, we’ve got a referendum on a player’s close. Oh, the latest victim is Aaron Rodgers. What happened? He threw an interception in the preseason. He was supposed to hit DK Metcalf. Well, social media went crazy. ‘Rodgers looks cooked. His mechanics are gone.’ Those are some of the takes. They came in fast and furious. So, let’s slow down. It is late July. It is practice. Rodgers is on a new team. New receivers. New timing. And time to slow down, just a little bit.”

“Remember Ja’Marr Chase when he came in as a rookie?” Patrick continued. “He couldn’t catch passes. Remember? That was a big story in training camp. ‘Oh my gosh.’ Well, he went on to set rookie records and nearly won a Super Bowl. So, take a deep breath. I’m guessing Aaron Rodgers still knows how to play. Ja’Marr Chase wasn’t a bust. It’s just camp. Hype runs wild. Takes run hot. Perspective runs a little too low.”
