They're playing with house money. All they need to do is hit on their pick and they're right back in the playoff mix next year.
I think it depends on how Boston is holding up. If they're top of the conference or at the bottom there's no incentive to rush. If they're midpack or play-in range then he probably comes back sooner than originally expected. (Assuming originally expected was late season to early playoffs)
