It's not dumb

The way owners circumvent it is insulting

Why wouldn't they? They know who they want to consider for the job. Pats know if they're giving the job to Vrabel. Why make them waste their time, Leftwich's time, and anyone else's time with pointless interviews?

If you don't have rules in place regarding who's hired, there's no need for rules regarding who's interviewed.

It's 2025... interviews aren't a sign of change and improvement...hires are.

Rooney rule is dumb anyways. Not mad at the Pats for this one
It's purpose is to put those coaches in front of owners. So even if they don't get the job, when owners convene and discuss, the coaches that impressed them could be put forward as interview recommenadations.

Which would then give those coaches a better chance at getting a job in the future, as they come recommended by a fellow owner.

Irony in that, is that Robert Kraft circumvented the rules last season by making it a contractual obligation to hire Mayo as HC and avoid that process. Perhaps, he feels the same as you do about the rule.

Why all these thumbs down on my Rooney rule post? Being required to interview minority candidates is pointless. Owners know who they want to interview and consider for the position. Forcing them to interview other people just wastes everyone's time, and doesn't create any real change.

There were 5 black head coaches in 2004. There were 6 coming into 2024 and 2 of them are already gone. What's it helping?

That all sounds good in theory, but we have 20 years to show it's not having an impact in practice. It's been 20 years, I think, and still no big bump in black head coaches. Just time wasted, and going through the motions to check a box.

I got a feeling Ben Johnson going to the Raiders. Tom Brady gonna use all his influence.

I can’t see how he’s an announcer for long if he keeps this up.

I think he’s only broadcasting for one year.

Lucky for him, he’s calling this seasons Super Bowl. Wow what luck lol
