I know players that played for him personally as well as coaches on staff. Bama bagman was undefeated.

However, I still disagree with your premise that he is against players getting paid and the transfer portal. IMO he has been consistent with his stance that the portal and NIL need to be regulated.

As far as him retiringā€¦Im sure NIL and the portal played a part. But this is Nick Saban we talking about fam.

Every time the game evolved he adapted and did it better than everybody.

You acting like Bama has been sorry since NIL became a thing lol

I for one think his age and the stage he is in life played a far bigger role in him retiring than kids getting money fam.
I 100% donā€™t think it should be regulated.

Nick was thriving in the NIL era. His highest rated class ever was just last year.

The contradictions and his track record plays a part.

Heā€™s no different from Ryan Day, Kirby Smart or Brian Kelly.

They are against the portal. Kirby came out said a player should be locked in once they sign for 365 days.

Iā€™m not a big fan of how the portal is used myself. That definitely needs to be fixed.

I think it should.

The spirit or purpose of NIL was for kids to be able to profit off of thier Name, Image and Likeness (Jersey sales, autograph signing sessions, sponsorships, etc)

However because its unregulated and somewhat ambiguous its being used by schools to just outright buy players but not claiming them as employeees. Its a loophole thats created an unregulated labor market.

And for every kid that gets high six figures and even millionsā€¦its another thats getting fuckedā€¦same for the schools. For every Texas that got oil money, there is a JMUā€¦

IMO you either pay them as a 1099 or W2 employee of the university or you dont and only allow money making opportunities through sponsors, etc

I for one think its totally fair for a LOI to be treated as a labor contract that locks you in for a year if money is being exchanged legally now. Thats business.

Another option could be to give the kid a choiceā€¦free school + NIL or you become a full fledged employee and you pay outta pocket at a reduced rate or use alternate scholarships and grants.

All I know is whats happening now isnt sustainable and is going to crash and in the end its the players that will feel it the most

"Major NIL Donors experiencing Donor Fatigue, see NIL as a temporary stopgap. NIL Collectives are telling AD's to prepare for revenue sharing, because NIL won't last forever. "I think thereā€™s an understanding that donor-led and fan-led model is not equitable and not sustainable."

NIL will fix itself

This ainā€™t gonna be the only ncaa game without the awards, they have done this before

Recruit players where that ainā€™t a priority then.

Get the type of guys you want

But naw. These coaches are something else

Lmaooo Saban asking for a salary cap in college sports. It didnt last long at all.

For them, the best model was for players to not get paid. The second best is to cap how much they can get paid. I hate the salary cap in pro sports cause it forces us to pocket watch players and hope they get paid last.

Wonder when the IRS is going to start looking into whether players are reporting their NIL as taxable incomeā€¦shit like that always comes into play at some point
