If a player shot 46%FG, 38% 3PT and averaged 7ppg last year and then this year he shot 57% FG, 46% 3PT and averages 16ppg would you consider him a front runner for MIP?

That should make them a leading candidate in a normal year.

But these days a lot of voters are gonna vote for someone who goes from 21 ppg to 26, and have less drastic improved numbers all around.

Which is not right. The award is literally called MOST improved.
