Looking at the standings the jazz had a very interesting season. They got the best of both worlds. They got all the joys of winning, being successful with new players and having an all star but still tank out after the break for a better draft pick

I don't think i've ever seen that before

Idk about all that

They were 4th in the west until the trade for Irving

Mavs fucked things up with Brunson from the very beginning.....when he signed his rookie deal it was a 4 year deal.....the last year though was non guaranteed instead of being a team option which prevents Dallas from matching an offer(also Leon Rose negoatioed this deal for Brunson

The Mavs end up guaranteeing his last year which makes him extension eligible all season which is good right? 4 year/55 Mil....Mavs don't offer him the extension over the summer........6 months later in January Brunson personally goes to the Mavs about the extension and says he wants to sign that max deal....4 year/55 mil.....Mavs still don't offer him the extension because they want the flexibility of being able to possibly trade him at the deadline

The Mavs didn't do shit at the deadline and like some true dickheads they tried to double back and offer him the extension which Brunson smartly declined because at this point his mind is already made up and the Knicks are plotting

Fast forward to the playoffs where Brunson sons the Jazz dolo while Luka is hurt and averages 21 points per game as they make the conference finals

Dallas thinks they have they have the upper hand because they can offer him a 5 year deal....Brunson likes the opportunity and the ties in NY were too strong and the rest is history

Mavs lose they're second best player for absolutely nothing

End up trading a first for C.Wood over the summer and then trading Dinwiddie, Finney Smith and more draft picks for a possible one year Kyrie rental.......

Now imagine if they had just extended Brunson and had him making like 15 mil a year for the next 4 years and the amount of flexibility they would've had
