I think Atkinson made the right decision.

Not because assitant coach is better than head coach.

And not because gsw is better than the hornets.

But because not signing up to a team that Jordan runs like a family business is >>>>>

Taking that hornets job is signing up to failure.

They got good young players, but Jordan has his family and friends in top exec positions, and thats a recipe for failure

Atkinson smart for avoiding that

I'm saying Silas will eventually leave Houston with a reputation for losing cause they won't keep him for the glow up similar to what happened with Atkinson and the nets except Atkinson imo is a dope coach.

I also never said Charlotte is a terrible coaching job I said associate head coach for golden state is a better one and that Atkinson can do better than Charlotte.

I think the Charlotte job is a pretty attractive job. They have some interesting young talent and they are in a decent city, in a state that loves basketball.

the beautiful thing about that job also is the expectations aren’t super high so just getting to the playoffs and maybe winning a round consistently will get you a decent amount of time to coach there.

the Michael Jordan being a meddling owner stuff doesn’t seem too true these days. He is letting Mitch Kupcheck (he even let Cho before hand run shit) build the team and laying pretty low, for who he is anyway. Lol.

I’m pretty sure if it was up to Michael Jordan they would’ve been tried to make a big splash via trade or something but they’ve stayed the course and has building through the draft.

I heard on NBA radio that Kenny Atkinson stayed for family reasons and not necessarily because he didn’t like the charlotte job. I mean, he did interview for it…

Aye look up all exec roles in Charlotte.

Jordan got his brothers in roles they not qualified for. Not to speak of his college friends and teammates.

Theres a reason why a team can have a Lamelo and not attract any seasoned coach.

EOD, none of us really know. But for me, being in the corporate world for over a decade now, seeing an exec comittee made up primarily of the owners family would raise a ton of red flags

I mean on this forum, I hope we all know that president of basketball ops isnt end all be all. I mean, yea, they have a role in which they gather info and come up with a list of potential moves, but every team is led by a comittee that votes on the move.

The head of basketball ops is the head of that comittee, but they not the final decision makers.

So knowing that, I see a organization where cats get voting power off nepotism, and im an established wanted coach, I stay away.

So I ride with Kennys decision.

Thats me though.

there are a ton of business that have family in high roles and sadly a lot of the family members aren’t as qualified and get the benefit of the doubt with learning on the job. I agree a lot of times it isn’t a smart way to run a business

Jordan’s brother actually got promoted after being on the staff for awhile, so it wasn’t like he just gave him the position he has now out of the blue. The chief operating officer also was promoted through the ranks. Mr. Fred Whitfield was the 1st and maybe still the only black chief operating officer. The guy worked in the Washington Wizards front office and also was promoted from within.

As up and down as the Lakers have been they still won championships with family members being high ranking executives. Shit, even my Spurs have the Holt kids running stuff since Peter and his wife starting going through the divorce.

Word. People did well research pods about Jordans hiring practices. The mfer dont hire no one he dont have some relationship with. Im just saying, I would have avoided it too.
