He fought emotionally.

If not his head would’ve been an unhittable object.

Instead he fought like Ronda going up against holly.

As a journeyman I would have been able to do that to his face.

The Josh Hokit thing is interesting because behind a clown is a an elite heavyweight build a lot of people are going to want him to lose and it may not happen for awhile in this weak ass division
Yeah, Josh really made a name for himself. Went the Colby Covington route. Made up a character and the second he started getting to a press conference thats all the press would write about is him and his antics. Its an annoying character, but on the flip side, the HW division is so damn shallow that he got into the rankings quick as fuck. Hes not that technically great of a fighter, but he knows how to make the event about him and has been fortunate to not run into a HW that can really stand with him yet besides Blaydes. I hoped Derrick Lewis was going to catch him, but Derrick is 40+ Years old and this is most likely going to be his last year fighting in the UFC despite being a fan favorite.

I'd love seeing Hokit try a fight with another top 5 contender that is actually a technical fighter and not someone who just swings and hopes for a connection. Hokit vs Waldo Cortez Acosta would be a great fight. Both are relatively new HW contenders and are on win streaks. Sergie Pavolich or however its spelled would be a good competition.

Hell, tbh Hokit vs HW Alex Pereira would be a great fight. Theres already bad blood between the two of them. It'd give Hokit a chance to prove himself against a more technical fighter and it would also be a great way for poatan to adapt a bit more to fighting at Heavyweight.

Honestly its kind of wild that for his very first HW fight poatan took on Gane. Gane is a natural HW that moves like a 185 fighter. Gane and Aspinal are the quickest most agile HW in the division!

Poatan has done interviews complaining about Herb Dean saying he wont fight if Herb is the ref because Gane threw so many illegal blows to the back of the head in their fight. Its kind of a bitch move though. I did think a few of those shots were illegal, but Alex was done well before those shots happened. Alex is acting like those shots are what lost him the fight but he didnt have a single good moment in that fight besides the couple seconds before the end of round 1 where he hit gane with a quick jab combo. Outside of that, he didnt look good at all and was breathing very heavy back in his corner.

I'd give him Herb and dare him to not fight. He's right that a lot were illegal but he's a hypocrite because it happens in every fight. Saying that he was illegally hit is fine to me because it's accurate but going on a complaining tour about it and saying you wont fight if Herb is the ref is a punk move

I'm curious if Hokit will be like Tai and end up failing after the gimmick goes away and starts losing

So far i think hes in that same skill ranking as Tai. What he has going on for him is hes a lighter heavyweight. He weighs in around 230ish. Fighters like Tai and Derrick Lewis will drop weight so they can make it to 265. Neither one of them are very fit heavyweights either. If you can survive round 1 against either one, theyre more than likely going to be too tired in the following rounds to catch their opponent with a clean shot.

Hokit also has his wrestling experience which surprisingly is a missing factor to a lot of these current heavyweights. Theres a few wrestlers/grapplers, but they dont use it very often. Thats how Hokit got Derrick though. He knew he couldnt stand in front of him fresh and risk getting tagged. Took him to the ground, tired him out, knocked him out the next round.

So he can use that same wrestling tactic and probably beat a majority of the current gen heavyweights. On the feet though he is no where near the striking of Sergi, Volkov, Poatan, Aspinal, or Gane. He shouldnt be able to beat anyone I just named. This sport is unpredictable af though.

Ain’t nothing elite about a one trick pony that is competent in grappling.

He literally beat a one trick pony that is slightly competent in striking.

Do not add more mystique to some already bullshit.

A two stripe white belt would’ve washed Derrick.
