Guns in America

HQL? Whazzat???

It's kinda goofy. In MD, you can walk in a story buy a rifle or shotgun that day and walk right out. However, if you want to buy a handgun or pistol caliber carbine classified as a handgun, you have to get a Handgun Qualification License which entails taking a four hour class and submitting fingerprints to the State. It actually doesn't have anything to do with owning the gun as you can continue to own your gun even when the license expires and your spouse, for example, can use the gun at the range whenever she wants without having an HQL. It really only exists to monitor people buying handguns.

I thought so too. I checked their prices though and a lane rental at their range is only $20 and hour. The closest indoor range to me is $30 for handguns and $40 for rifles.

It's so weird to me when they charge more for rifles, unless they have lanes specifically for rifles that are much longer and can handle big boy calibers like .338 Lapua or .450 Bushmaster or some shit like that.

Yeah, that's the case at my local spot. There are different lanes for rifles and handguns. It really would be weird if you were using the same lanes but were being charged differently. The only reason I could see for justifying that is maintenance. They have to continually replace the backstops I believe and rifles do cause more damage to those than handguns.

I miss the free indoor range in NC. They allowed you to shoot anything too. You could use steel which a lot of places don't allow too

That's basically how the outdoor range I go to now is. Only downside is there's no automated system for putting up and taking down targets, so you basically have to ask everybody to stop shooting so you can go down your lane and take care of it. It's not that big a deal though. Usually, if one person needs to do something, others will take the opportunity to do it too.
