You'd think so. The only reason you'd pick the Red Button is if your faith in humanity is very low.

What makes this kinda interesting to me is there are parallels with our current two party system. Basically, the people on the left say "If you put us in office, we'll try to help everyone out" (they don't always do that, but that's another story. The people on the right say "We don't have much to offer you, but if you put us in office, we'll do our best to hurt the people on the Left." Millions of people vote for Right-wing candidates, so I don't think it's that crazy to believe that some people would push the Red button.

Isn’t this the plot of The Dark Knight lol. By not blowing up the other boat, they basically chose the blue button.

It's not really logical or smart.

If everyone that isn't a psychopath chose Blue, then Blue would win. That's the logical choice because its the one where everyone lives. Sure, there are some pyschopaths out there that would press Red in hopes of killing a bunch of people, but that is unquestionably a minority of people. The only reason Blue is a risky choice is because people's selfishness often overrides their logic. Many will prioritize their own safety by picking Red even though thinking like that is the only reason there is any risk at all.
