FEATURED LL Cool J says he’s the “most important rapper that ever existed”, do you agree❓

test
From an artform standpoint…its Rakim. We dont gotta go into detail about how his rhyme scheme and flows unlocked hip hop as an art form

From a business perspective (marketing, sales, popularity, etc) its LL hands down

Run DMC before LL. Them niggas had the 80's on lock. It's 2024 and Run DMC gear still sellin'.

This shit getting outta hand man :lol10:
Ok. If LL never met rubin and russ how would rap look? If eazy never went to dre and said I wanna clean my money up with rap how would the game look. It doesn't even compare. His impact through starting nwa even reaches film. Without eazy there is no cube. Which means no boyz in the hood cause u do know that's the title of his song. There is no Friday. Are we there yet. Barbershop or big3. Without him would be no beats by Dre cause he put Dre in the game

Gangsta Rap was already an established thing by the time NWA dropped.

Y’all only popping for Eazy cause him and his boys was what made white folks pay attention.
Huh? Don't matter if it was established. Your legacy is judged by those you affected, helped, and put on. Look at eazy tree. If you don't understand his impact then you don't know hip hop. Hip hop has family trees. Like how baby and slim can be directly linked to Drake. Eazy has a direct link to Kendrick, Dre, snoop.....name any hip hop lineage that compares

So. Hip hop was already a thing but when run dmc came they blew the doors off. So we give them props for taking it to another level
And when LL came Russell Simmons said " I can build a label around this guy rather than Run-DMC even though Run is my brother."

That's another level in my book.

I think the biggest issue is people different definitions on what makes a rapper important.

I say LL because his impact as a rapper in society overall is just as relevant as his contribution musically.

No where am I saying he's the "best" or the nicest nigga to ever do it... But he was a highly visible and major contributing artist to the trailblazing sound to come out of that original def jam roster.
He was there... He a major figure.

He was absolutely there and still relevant in music for the next 3 DECADES... While also doing TV shows..... Movies... Clothing lines.....

I say Snoop bcuz it's the same. Snoop on TV today in T-Mobile commercials, moves, commentary for sports, Snoop been in wrestling, collaboration with Martha Stewart.... Like he's a legit A list credible celebrity for 4 decades.. While still capable of making legit and relevant music.

Not so much will Smith because while his crossover success is crazy... His rapper status peaked before his crossover. Fresh Prince was a dope rapper, Will Smith made some cool movie soundtrack songs.

Ice cube definitely gotta argument considering his movie impact and rap impact placed a stronger impression on society....

But that's how I been judging it. Who has been then biggest household name across the entire world for their contribution both to rap and outside of rap.

Rakim may be nicer, but LL is way more recognized
